Want an iPhone but your budget would not allow you to settle for the one in mint condition? Then buying a second hand iPhone will be the most feasible decision you will make.
As with any used or secondhand product, you have to be sure that you’re buying a genuine product. Obviously, you don’t want to get ripped-off. So, there are four important things that you must check when buying a used or second hand iPhone.
1.Check the Serial Number and Activation Lock
“Activation Lock” is a feature which does not allow anybody to use an iPhone in case it’s lost or stolen. This lock is enabled automatically when you turn on Find My iPhone on a device using iOS 7 or later.
The seller or previous owner of the iPhone should have turned off the activation lock, or else you will not be able to use this second hand iPhone.
In order to ensure that the mobile phone is not locked or stolen, fetch the iPhone’s unique IMEI or Serial number. This number would be printed on the back of the case. You can also see it by going to Settings>General>About.
Has the number been found? If so, go to the Apple Activation Lock Status Tool. Now enter the IMEI number for verifying that the phone isn’t locked or stolen.
2.Check for Water Damage
An iPhone has a Liquid Contact Indicator which indicates whether or not the smartphone has been in contact with water. Know that the colour of the indicator is generally white or silver, but when it contacts with water it turns red. You probably have to use a light as well as a magnifying glass to see the LCI properly.
3.Check the Overall Condition of the Phone
Make sure you examine the casing in a careful way. Does it have any scratches? Other than its appearance, the scratches can show that the second hand iPhone has had a rough life. It may even have sustained any form of internal damage.
Are all the buttons operating properly, without any stiffness? Do check the dock connector and the headphone socket for signs of damage (if any) or probably excessive wear and tear.
Don’t forget to ensure that the Touch controls and fingerprint recognition work perfectly. On the latest model, make sure that the 3D touch is working the way it should be. Just plug your smartphone into a charger to ensure that it charges immediately.
4.Check the Battery
Battery life becomes worse as a phone gets older. So this phone will not hold its charge as long as a new iPhone. However, the battery isn’t user-replaceable and is quite costly to fit. So you have to ensure that it is not damaged or worn out. You must charge the battery to 100% and see how long it lasts when used normally.
It’s no surprise that iPhone is one of the most admired pieces of modern technology. These smartphones have been dominating the market since their release in 2007. Buying a second hand iPhone is beneficial but there are some things you must check when purchasing a used or second hand iPhone.
